Choosing the Right Roofing Company

When it comes to home roof repair the importance of hiring a professional, experienced, and reliable roofing contractor cannot be overstated. Selecting a roofing company or contractor with limited experience, reference, or good reviews, can lead to extensive structural damage to your home. This can be avoided.

While there are many roofing companies out there, it is not an easy task to choose the right one.

Here are five important things to consider when it comes to hiring a
roofing company for your residential needs.

Do Your Research

One of the best ways to do your research is the easiest way; ask around or search online. When you speak to your family, friends, or community, ask them about the roofing contractors they’ve dealt with in the area and, if they would recommend them. If they would, great! You’ve got a first-hand recommendation. If they wouldn’t, be sure to ask why so you have an idea of what questions to ask and potential red flags.

If you're researching online using a search engine or via social media, search for a company’s name. Be sure to read any reviews or ratings, as this will help you get an idea of what previous customers have been through, thoughts on service, quality, pricing, etc.

Read Reviews

As previously mentioned when looking to hire a roofing contractor, one of the first things you should look into is whether or not the company has an established reputation. Look for reviews from current or previous customers to make sure the company has more positive reviews than negative ones.

A quality contractor will also have great customer service and will offer free estimates for the service you’re enquiring after. Consider choosing a local, family-owned company over a larger chain, as it could make for a more pleasant, personal experience.

All of what you’re looking for will likely be mentioned in the reviews.

Ask Questions

It is important to ask questions. Ask about the approach the company will take tailored to your specific roof replacement project and needs, before selecting a contractor. Ensure you understand the process, the material, and the cost involved.

Ask about the company; find out how long they have been in business, what guarantees or warranties they offer, and what materials they use on roofs in your area and climate zone.

Verify estimates given. Each company you speak with should be able to estimate the time required and what the project will cost and, what will happen if there are any delays or issues during installation.

Additionally, it is worth keeping an eye on the project as it progresses. If something doesn't look right or if there are issues with the materials being used by the contractor, don’t be afraid to speak up immediately, and ask that they be fixed or replaced. It is, after all, your house and your money on the line.

Get a Quote

Keep in mind; you are entitled to at least three quotes from a licensed contractor, so don't feel rushed into choosing a contractor too quickly.

Get multiple quotes from a few companies; try not to jump right in by going with the first company that comes along, or the company with a flashy sign in the window.

As you collect your quotes, you’ll want to compare cost, options offered, time, and other details. Remember, don't be afraid to ask questions or request more information when necessary.

Align Values With Company

One of the more important things you can do when selecting a roofing company is to ensure your values align. If they don't, it might be time to move on.

We’re talking integrity, honesty, a sense of community, moral values, etc.

What a lot of homeowners do not realize is that a roofing contractor could be in business for a lot of different reasons.  Some Contractors are only in it for the money, some are in it to try and make money off insurance carriers, and others see themselves as valued members of the community with long track records to prove it.

So, make sure you can all get along. Make sure you can communicate effectively. Make sure that when they leave, you are happy and can voice otherwise if you aren’t. At the end of the day, you want to ensure everything was done to your liking, the way you wanted it done, and the way it should have been done.
